Every child needs parents, still they are not granted. Many children in Africa in general and Rwanda in particular because of the 94 genocide, face the terrible truth that they are on their own. The logical consequence is that the children suffer from hunger and abandon home. Brothers and sisters go different ways and become street children without any perspective. The oldest brother or sister takes over the responsibilities of the parents, which is not easy. Many of them don’t know how to cultivate their land, how to organize family life, or even how to cook. They are often sad or sick because they miss their parents’ care.
To avoid this development, Human Help Network Rwanda keeps the families together and assists them in daily life. HHN provides agricultural advice and psycho-social support. As many members of the family as possible are supposed to go to school, so Human Help Network Rwanda pays school uniforms, school materials and school fees for them.
For those who took over parents’ responsibilities, Human Help Network Rwanda assembles them into associations. In that way, they can not only share their experiences, but also share their efforts and opportunities to set up income generating activities. They cultivate big fields together and manage their income generating activities for the whole association. Human Help Network Rwanda offers both financial and technical support.
For those who are in schools, in return, they spend some times during their school holidays to assist the most vulnerable families at home, e.g. to build a kitchen or a toilet. If possible, they also support the association’s activities.
From 2007 on, more than 400 families from Southern Province and south of the Western Province of Rwanda have received Human Help Network Rwanda’s support. Human Help Network Rwanda is very happy to see their associations growing strong and independent, so that one day, they can succeed without any support.
